CLASSIC
WINDLASS
When Cornish businessman David
Webster needed a windlass for
his 95-year-old gaff ketch, he
ended up building one himself.
Several years down the line and
his windlasses are for sale, as
powered or manual. He also
makes other traditional
boat kit. The windlass
range starts at £1,200.

TIMEX WATCH

This minimalist and rather
classy Timex Weekender –
the Fairfield model – comes
with various straps but we
favour this cheerful nautical
theme. The white dial boasts
a gold-coloured rim. As the
good folk at Timex very
sensibly say: “Perfect for
the modern person this
sailing season.”
Available online only, £54.99.

CUSTOM FLAGS
Classic Boat’s art editor
Peter Smith turned heads when
he sailed in the Suffolk Yacht
Harbour Classic Regatta in June
(see page 50), for his exemplary
boat handling skills, but also for
the smart burgee he was flying
from his masthead stave. He
designed it himself and Red
Dragon Flagmakers did the rest.
The high quality 11 x 26in (half
metre) burgee cost £34.90.

PAINTING OF YOUR YACHT
Artist Antony Parks was invited to create two paintings to mark the
centenary of the NY Forties Rowdy and Chinook at Les Voiles d’Antibes in
June. He has painted other classics – this one shows Mariquita off Antibes
(€1,500, acrylic on canvas, 89 x 100cm) – and he will paint your yacht too!
