For many designers and builders of contemporary cruising catamarans, the delineation of indoor and outdoor
spaces no longer exists: Open floor plans reign supreme. But there’s more than one way to, pardon the expression,
skin a cat. For example, the Bali 4.3 Loft separates the main cabin from the cockpit with a large folding door that
can be raised to transform those once disparate areas into one common living space (above left and center). The
Bavaria Open 40, however, takes a decidedly different tack (above right). Like the Bali, it features a fixed bimini
over the cockpit. But the Open 40 is equipped with roll-down flaps on each side of the cockpit. When raised, and
