reef called Two Trees or Two Sticks.
Towards the east we have the Ladar
Reef system as well as my favourite —
All Sorts Reef. First and Second reefs
are the closest directly east from the
Peninsula point. Ten minutes to the
north we have a deep channel system
called Alberto’s Hole.
The dominant species in the area is
’cuda (king mackerel), but you also get
lots of prodigal son, barracuda, queen-
fish, all the kingfish species and thou-
sands of “snoek” (queen mackerel) in
the winter months.
I have found that a very slow troll
with bait-swimmer-rigged dead carapao
produce the best results for most
species. This maasbanker-type bait can
be purchased from the local netters on
the main open ocean beach. Casting
with small spoons is the most success-
ful method to catch queen mackerel.
This area is a light tackle angler’s
dream, and the abundance of fish

species makes for uninterrupted, year-

round fishing. To the west of BD Point

you’ll find extensive mangrove forests

which shelter monster river snapper,

spotted grunter, rockcod and many

species of ray.

BD Point is only accessible on the

low tide by driving 28km on the beach

towards the north of Inhassoro. A

beach driving permit must be bought

from the Inhassoro Port Captain at a

cost of 1 000 meticais per vehicle.

Lulas Paradise Lodge provide great

self-catering accommodation. Its jetty

on the lagoon has become very popular

because many species of fish congre-

gate at its pillars, thus providing

snorkelling and fish feeding opportuni-

ties for the kids.
