Despite being based in Gloucester, Peter consulted with
Altricia’s project team every step of the way, and he is to
be found in Cornwall most weekends.
“I spent a lot of time researching what I was looking
for,” says Peter, sitting on Altricia, which at the time
was awaiting launch following a full restoration at
Mylor Yacht Harbour. “I wanted a restoration project
in the 40 foot bracket, something with accommodation
because of getting older. I also wanted a metre boat as
opposed to any old boat, so it’s built to a formula and
in a class so it’s an 8-M cruiser/racer. Something that’s
manageable to sail with two of us, and something for
the family to use. My daughters can sail very well but
owning a boat isn’t a priority for them, so it has to be
a boat safe for their children.”
She was built of African mahogany in 1965 and
named after the owner’s children Alastair and Patricia.
She raced and cruised on the Clyde successfully for most
of her life, before Peter bought her in North Wales in
