Blue crush:
wave-inspired décor
Georg Jensen has a long history
of using modernist, curvilinear
forms in artfully made tableware
and accessories. The Danish
firm’s recent introductions –
the Helle Damkjær-designed
Indulgence grand champagne
cooler (which accommodates
three bottles of your favorite
bubbly) and classic Constantin
Wortmann-designed Cobra
candlestick (now available in
gold) – are proof of concept.
As creative director Nicholas
Manville explains, wave-
reminiscent, organic shapes
are in the brand’s DNA. “Henning
Koppel, Georg Jensen’s core
designer in the 1950s, was the
first to create the organic forms
you know us for – a lot of
technically difficult shapes to
make as a silversmith,” he says.
“Cobra and Indulgence riff off of
those now classic Scandinavian
design principles.”
Today, Koppel’s pioneering
aesthetic is a touchpoint for the
house’s designers. An innovator in
adapting its products to stainless
steel, Georg Jensen offers both
the Cobra and Indulgence pieces
in the resilient material, which
make tarnishing, both at home
and at sea, a thing of the past.

RIPPLE EFFECT
Woodworker and cabinet maker Giuseppe
Rivadossi, whose atelier in Lombardy, northern
Italy, has been turning out one-of-a-kind,
handmade cabinetry since the 1960s,
balances the sculptural and the organic in his
cherrywood Del Ponto dresser. Hand carved
into bold three-dimensional relief, this piece
aims to conjure the “ancestral force of waves”.

SOFT SWELL
Outdoor fabrics have
become so well
engineered it is hard
to tell the difference
between interior and
exterior upholstery
weight textiles.
Kravet has released
its latest outdoor
fabric collection,
including
Decowaves, an art
deco homage to the
Chinese decorative
treatment of waves.
The fabric is
impervious to water
and sunlight and
comes in four
colorways, including
jade (shown).

WALK ON WATER
The concepts of
rhythm and flow
were the starting
points for
London-based
designer Luke
Irwin’s Seascape
rug. He renders
the piece – which
can be custom
ordered in both silk
and wool in a range
of colorways –
in an ethereal,
watercolor fashion,
making it a
meditation on
the constant
interdependence
between these
essential elements
of the ocean.

GO WITH THE FLOW
Ralph Lauren Home’s Ryder suite of barware,
which includes a carafe, nut bowl, highball
glass, double Old Fashioned glass and vase,
is mouth-blown using a traditional technique
to achieve its opalescent shades. The swirling
movement effect created recalls a wave
breaking into foaming surf.
