What are your cruising plans
for 2017? We plan to start from
Lefkada in the Ionian and cruise south
towards Meganisi, Ithaka, Kefalonia
and Zakinthos. We’ll keep going south
around the Peloponnese, aiming for
the amazing beach of Elafonisos. This
whole route has so many nice beaches
and bays to anchor in, and also great
harbors for dining or entertainment. We
Greeks are really blessed that we have
all these magnificent islands
What are you most looking forward
to? Joyful and relaxing times with the
family. On the boat we are all more
close, doing so many things together:
diving, snorkeling, water-skiing and
fishing. The best time is when we
light the onboard barbecue and relax,
listening to music
Why did you decide to buy two
Azimuts? Duke (myduke.gr) was
bought more as a charter boat and it
has been very successful, due to its

excellent crew and capabilities. We
don’t get to use it as much as we’d like,
so bought a 77S to enjoy as a family.
Last year we did Croatia, Montenegro,
Corfu and Paxos. It was a really
great trip and the yacht performed
remarkably well
What’s your favorite corner of the
Med? The Cyclades offers the most
diverse island-hopping you can find,
with amazing water. Depending on
our mood we usually choose between
Mykonos, Santorini and Polyaigos
Any good restaurant tips? In Greece
the food is so good that you don’t
need too many tips. Most of the island
tavernas have fresh fish cooked
in the traditional Mediterranean way
and if you are more on the meat side
you will get excellent lamb, beef and
chicken. But if you’re looking for a
name, I’d recommend Kuzina, at Ornos
beach on Mykonos or Errikos on
Meganisi in the Ionian Sea

How did the cruise north go? Fantastic. The yacht left the south
coast of the UK in early February and entered the Arctic Circle in
Norway 20 days later. We’ve had good interest in our “Sail+Ski”
charter program, and have two or three weeks left available. We
hope that the new marina development in Tromsø will help, as it
makes the Lyngen Alps so much more accessible for yachts
How long will you be up there? We’re heading up there in March
to hopefully find some untracked powder, and I hope to spend
at least two weeks on board with my family. However the boat
will stay as long as the snow conditions allow, usually until mid
May. A good trip is a week as it allows for some flexibility with the
weather, but you also need some time between daily 3,000ft
vertical ascents!
Where’s the best skiing? Generally below around 70°N. But, as
we are a Category 0 boat, we chase the best snow and wind
Does it get busy? Adventure traveling is a rapidly expanding
segment. I’m always surprised by the quality and diversity
of people you find in ski huts in the most remote places. When
my wife and I first skied the Lyngen Alps, we slept in sleeping
bags and had to rely on freeze-dried rations. And we believe that
there’s a certain clientele who want to experience the rawness
of these areas, but with an appropriate level of comfort, and
this is where Firebird comes in. The best back-country skiing
in the world – but the ambience and fine dining of a superyacht.
What could be better?

Yacht: Latitude
Length: 147' 7"
Year: 2009
Location: New Zealand

You’re in the South Pacific. What
have you been up to? We have just
returned after a few weeks in the
north of New Zealand. We boarded
in Auckland and then cruised to Great
Barrier Island and all around the Bay
of Islands. Then we went north to the
Cavalli Islands and visited some
friends who have a beautiful farm near
there. They took us for a tour of the
whole northern part of New Zealand
by helicopter; we flew around Cape
Reinga and then down the west coast

  • flying low and fast over the famed
    Ninety Mile Beach
    You were doing
    research, also?
I spotted a huge flock of
    black swans from the air
and I noted the GPS co-
    ordinates on my iPhone.
    Later we took Latitude
    there and spent hours
    photographing the swans

Any other highlights?
While visiting our friends, we also did
some dirt biking around their property,
which is huge and includes several
private bays and beaches. It was a lot of
fun and we had a drone following us in
“auto follow” mode. On our way back to
Auckland we diverted to some islands
known as the Poor Knights, where we
did some diving. We also did some
fishing and caught enough to feed
ourselves through a few dinners
What now? Latitude is in Auckland,
about to go into a yard. We have
done over 40,000 nautical miles
in just three summers and a bit so
it’s time for a little maintenance. I am
thinking of a few modifications
to the sundeck. We are also going
to do a complete new paint job so
I think it will be out of commission for
about six months. After that we head to
Fiji, the Solomons, Papua New Guinea
and Indonesia
