speculating that our interview would be a gruff affair – a snatched, bad-
tempered exchange. What a treat it was to report back that the famed French
designer was the polar opposite: charming, engaging and totally at ease. What
I didn’t appreciate before was how much of a boat nut he is; turns out,
a serious one. He owns more than 15 boats – so many he’s lost count! So here’s
the tip for anyone interviewing him in future: do it on a boat. Starck forms
