Trade-A-Boat — 490 2017

(avery) #1
probably for aesthetics – but can be
raised, and the cuddy is small and only
really usable for children but this is a
five-metre boat so you can’t expect to
be able to swing a cat. What matters is
throttle position, which is good, access
to storage, which is great, and handy
spots for keys, mobile phones and
drinks, all of which are well thought-
out in the Whittley Clearwater 1650.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT
Another hallmark of Whittley-built
boats is the high level of standard
inclusions. The two-tone paint is
standard, as are bow rails, marlin
boards and the bimini (clears are an
option), all of which are typically costly
options on other boats. And, although
not seen on our test boat, they now
come with rubber floor matting which
is glued down and features smart-
looking logos and even a measure for
checking your catch.

TOP (L-R) The DragonFly7 is a good size
and a good fit for a boat like the 1650; The
optional plumbed livewell is great; In the
wind-swept slop of Lake Eildon, the 1650
was tons of fun
BELOW Neat corner seats add family appeal

“We all know someone who reckons their

boat ‘feels like a go-kart’ but I’ve not tried

anything that comes close to the 1650”
