Cruising Helmsman – June 2017

(Sean Pound) #1

bolting the equipment brackets to a piece
of black, 12mm thick HDPE plastic with
a pivot hole that is a close fit around the
hollow pivot axle.
This is a short length of heavy walled
aluminium tube, welded into a matching
hole in a piece of 3mm plate. See diagram.
The plate is secured between two
dodger frames with four small fasteners.
The HDPE is retained in place by a plastic
collar and backing plate, secured using
six little 3mm studs, drilled and tapped
into the bottom face of the tube. The
Nyloc nuts on these are tightened such
that friction keeps the unit in whatever
position it’s pushed.
Velcro cable ties are handy, waterproof
cable glands may be useful if passing
wiring through into the cabin. Polarised,
waterproof two-pin connectors are
available if it is necessary to introduce a
disconnect close to a piece of equipment. ≈
