I never leave home without...

I always travel with my Kindle, and
right now I’m in the midst of Atlas
Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I recommend
it to everyone.
Between work with
TopBrewer and the boats we
run, there’s not a lot of time
for watching anything
on board – but I have
managed to catch some of
The People v OJ Simpson.
I’m getting more and more
into watches, and at the
moment I’m switching between a TAG
Heuer Carrera and an Apple Watch.
I love music and enjoy creating
playlists. Anything from
Hotel Costes is good, but
I’m also into John Mayer
and Ed Sheeran.
The tech I take on board
consists of my MacBook
Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone 7
Plus, Kindle, a 20,000
mAh battery so I never
run out of juice and wireless Bluetooth
headphones from Jabra.
I can usually be found in 100% Capri
linen shirts and shorts and Dogui
sunglasses from
Snob Milano.
The first thing I do
on board is locate my
guitar and grab a coffee from
our TopBrewer machine, which is built
into the saloon bar.
My favourite toys are either
our kitesurfer or SeaBob. The
paddleboards are also good to get the
pulse up and muscles activated.

Yacht: Dunia Baru
Length: 51m
Year: 2014
Location: Bali

Where has Dunia Baru been
lately?
She’s been in Thailand and
Myanmar for the last four
months, and is being moved
now to Bali to re-provision
in preparation for a cruise in
one of our favourite areas,
Komodo. We’ll spend the
next three or four months
there and then after that
we’ll head to the Forgotten
Islands – which, as the name
suggests, are pretty remote.
Why there?
One of my favourite things
to do is explore. We have
a seven metre RIB and often
when the big boat is moving,
we will go off and see what
we can find in the RIB. One
time we came into a bay
in this area and were
suddenly surrounded by
what must have been a
thousand jumping dolphins.
It was one of those
wonderful things that make
trips to unexpected places
worthwhile.

Are you doing any work
on the boat?
There is always work
happening! But we’re lucky
on Dunia Baru in that the
crew does 75 per cent of the
maintenance work, including
keeping the brightwork
in Bristol condition and if
any woodwork is required,
we have shipwrights on
board. We still haul her
out once a year in eastern
Indonesia, but the boat was
built properly and so far we
haven’t had any major issues.
Where’s your favourite spot
on board?
We built a commercial range
on deck, which nine people
can sit around. I built the
boat for families and it’s a
family kind of thing. We have
a very talented Australian
chef who is there whenever
you want something to eat.
So that’s the best spot on
board, especially when the
family is all sitting around
eating and talking.

Length: 22.2m
Year: 1949
Location: Antigua

How’s the Caribbean?
Fantastic, mainly because we’re
not far from one of our favourite
islands – Martinique, home
to some of the world’s finest
rum distilleries. We’ve become
very familiar with the island’s
rum – or “rhum” as the locals
call it – over the years. Most of
the distilleries are open to the
public and easy to visit with a bit
of effort. Owners who spend a
little time there will have a truly
memorable experience, right
up there with exploring Old San
Juan, the Baths of Virgin Gorda
or Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua.
How do you do it?
You start at Le Marin harbour,
which is about 20nm south of
the main city, Fort-de-France.
Distillerie La Mauny and Rhum
Trois Rivières are both only a

20 minute drive from the marina
and offer wonderful tastings. We
once had a difficult passage on
one of our trips to Martinique
and this was a great way to settle
the nerves!
How do you see all the others?
We rent a car and do what the
guidebooks call “The Rhum
Trail of Martinique”, but there
is neither a defined route or
signage. We suggest a counter-
clockwise route, heading north
east to the Saint James Distillery,
founded in 1765, and Habitation
Clément. The most northerly
of the distilleries is Rhum JM,
which makes a wonderful dark
rum that is sometimes confused
with a highly regarded, and
very expensive, bourbon. Your
route will then take you over
the mountains and south down
the west coast, where you visit
Depaz, family-owned Neisson
and Distillerie Dillon in Fort-de-
France. Give yourself two days
for the full experience. It’s an
amazing trip, made even better
by allowing yourself plenty of
time to visit the distilleries in
a relaxed manner.

Owner of Seven Sins
Length: 52m
Year: 2017
Location: La Spezia

Handover should be just around
the corner...
It’s scheduled for the beginning of
May, so by the time this is printed
I should be on board.
What was the build process like?
We have been involved in the build
since August 2016, and it has been
very positive. Sanlorenzo has been
very co-operative and we can’t
complain about the attitude of the
team that built this vessel. Those
people are extraordinary.
What’s the first thing you’re going
to do on board?
Drive the yacht from the sundeck and

enjoy the sea and life on board with
our family and friends, who we
can offer this unique vacation
on the water to.
What’s unique about the yacht?
There is nothing else like this boat
in the 50 to 55 metre segment.
The beach club is quite incredible,
opening on three sides.
Where will you cruise this summer?
We’ve already booked 12 weeks of
charter! The boat will go to Malta,
Sicily, the Aeolian Islands, Monaco,
Sardinia, Corsica, Ibiza, the Ionian
and the area around Capri. It will
be a busy first season.
