Modern day Cousteaus take note –
Dutch submersible specialist U-Boat
Worx is opening up the depths of the
oceans for exploration with its new
range of deep diving, superyacht-
friendly subs. The two person
C-Researcher 2 has a maximum
operating depth of 2,000m, while the
C-Researcher 3 can carry three people

to 1,700m below the surface. U-Boat
Worx explains that this capability
is thanks to new pressure-tolerant
lithium-ion batteries and an automatic
trim weight system. Founder Bert
Houtman says: “The C-Researcher
series offers superyacht owners the
safest, best performing and most
luxurious submersibles.” uboatworx.com

With a diesel-electric drive train and interiors by Rhoades Young, the
forthcoming Spirit 111 is like nothing the British yard has built before. At
33.9m, it is the largest Spirit to date, but that’s just the beginning of the story.
The experienced owner is keen to spend long stretches on board with the
minimum of fuel burn, so the Spirit 111 will be fitted with an electric drive
system supported by four lithium battery banks that can be recharged while
sailing or topped up by a pair of 25kW generators. The estimated top speed
under power is 11 knots, while a custom carbon rig, hydraulic winches and an
extensive sail wardrobe promise exhilarating performance when Spirit 111 hits
the water in summer 2019. spirityachts.com

BEAST BREAKS OUT

The 58m Royal Huisman sloop Ngoni
certainly lived up to her project name
when she burst out of the Dutch yard in
late March. Previously known as “The
Beast” this imposing sailing yacht is one
of the last designs to make the leap from the late Ed Dubois’ drawing
boards into reality. Her interiors come courtesy of Rick Baker and Paul
Morgan, complete with an office, gym and steam room, and delivery is
scheduled in time for the Mediterranean season. royalhuisman.com

RIBELLE WITH A CAUSE

For most yachts a top four finish
at the 2015 ARC rally would be
an amazing achievement, but
for Apsaras this was only the
beginning of an epic adventure
that will take this 24 metre all
round the world. Launched by
Italian yard Advanced Yachts in
2015, she has now clocked up
an impressive 21,000 nautical
miles. Currently heading for
Madagascar, her packed
itinerary includes stop-offs in
Sri Lanka, Thailand and Australia
before arriving in Hong Kong
next year. “Between the Canary
Islands and Cape Verde we
managed to sail all the time,”
reports skipper Fabio Beccatini.

an epic journey
around the world

Owners, designers
and industry insiders
gathered in Monaco to
salute Ribelle last month
when the 32.6m Vitters
sailing yacht arrived in
her home port for the
first time. The Malcolm
McKeon-designed
exteriors catch the eye
first, with a curved teak

transom and a glass
canopy rising above the
saloon, while the Rémi
Tessier interiors feature
white leather, varnished
teak and lacquered
copper. Underneath
all this is a super-light
carbon fibre hull.
