Power & Motoryacht – June 2017

Man’s Best Mate
Michael Peters loves dogs (Sightlines, April 2017). Coming
from Seattle I know dogs. Seattle, like a number of cities, has
more dogs than kids. One might wonder why? Could it be that
a dog will love you no matter how you treat it? Could it be that a
“trained” dog will obey you without question? Does an uncon-
ditionally loving, obedient dog provide a convenient substitute
for the diffi cult job of learning how to get along with our fellow
humans?

We cruise Maine with our yellow Labrador. We always attach an in-
expensive water-activated strobe to his collar. Why? We almost lost
the dog at night in a dog overboard situation! It was a potentially
very serious situation that ended happily!

Tender Davit Love
Aft er reading (Tame Your Tender, March 2017) I wanted to let
your readers know that I bought a Hurley Marine Davit H3O
and it’s amazing! I can put my Sea Doo Spark or any other
dinghy on the back of my boat without help. Every time I pull
it on the boat everyone watches. And their customer service is
top notch; if I ever have a question I call and the owner of the
company, Todd Hurley, answers. One time my son dropped the
remote for the power winch in the water and it sank to the bot-
tom. I called and he had one out to me the next day.

Palm Beach Collision
Th at’s actually me in your video (pmymag.com/collision) on the
48-foot Fairline. I’m in the red shirt walking up to inspect the
damage. It was minimal. I felt bad because I yelled at the poor
guy. He seemed like a novice and shouldn’t have been put in the
position of moving in tight quarters around brand-new boats. I
think the problem was he had the wheel hard over to port and
didn’t know it and then got confused when the boat wouldn’t
respond correctly.

Path Less Traveled
Great job by Simon Murray and Capt. Pike (A World Apart, April
2017) on their St. John’s River adventures. I’ve boated there for
four years now aboard my 1985, 36-foot Egg Harbor during the
winter months. Th ese are the type of articles I enjoy most. Hope to
see more of this type of reporting and thanks again.
