AMEL 50 MOVES TO SLOOP RIG
Amel will launch its 50-footer at the September Cannes Yachting
Festival. This model will be a departure for the shipyard as the 15 metre
yacht the Amel 50 will be built according to each owner's preferences making
it cost manageable, while the hull shape will have a high-performance, but
comfortable sailing, design.
While not aiming to compete with racing yachts, the Amel 50 is a departure
from usual ketch design to a sloop. For naval architect Olivier Racoupeau "the
development of embedded techniques such as motorised furlers, means that
manoeuvering a 50 foot sloop is much easier today.
"Ketch rigging is no longer necessary on a boat of this size."
Designed to be easy to handle when shorthanded, the standard build will
include: electric sail furlers and winches, centralised controls in the cockpit and
a self-tacking staysail. Crew safety is ensured with a rigid bimini over a deep,
protected central cockpit and stainless steel handrail surrounding the deck.

ESSENTIAL KIT

NO DANGER, NO MESS COOKING
GoSun Stove is introducing the fuel-free portable,
solar powered grill.
The GoSun Grill utilises energy from the sun to
bake, boil, fry or steam a meal for eight, in less
than one hour. It harnesses the sun's energy using
curved steel reflective fold-out shields focussing
the heat onto a proprietary vacuum tube that allows
for fast cooking in its interior.
The vacuum tube is safe and the cooking is
clean, without the use of LPG, propane, charcoal,
turpentine, etc.
Despite the high cooking temperatures, the
exterior of the grill remains cool. In addition, the
high-moisture cooking ensures food is not only
flavourful, but retains full nutritional value.
All without noise, smoke or flammable materials.
Coming soon will be a grill with a solar panel battery
that will keep the sun's charge for cooking at night.

TAKACAT TWIN HULL INFLATABLES
The stability of catamaran design can now
be found in the form of a rigid inflatable
dinghy tender from New Zealand now being
represented in Australia by Multihull Central.
The Takacat dinghies range from 2.4 metres
to 3.8m with either an open bow or closed
tapered bow and are designed to save weight,
offer excellent stability while providing an
affordable alternative to regular RIBs.
Due to its large pontoons on each side,
the Takacat does not lean over and become
unstable like traditional dinghies, yet drives
well through all conditions due to the floats
also providing the hull shape. The inflatable

design still provides a lightweight floor
bridgedeck, which is as firm as a regular
fibreglass boat but completely deflatable
and compact for stowage.
The entire boat fits into two carrybags,
weighing in at half the weight of an aluminum
RIB. The Takacat is ideal to stow away
below for long passages so as not to restrict
performance if towing or on davits; or
restricting deck space if tied down forward.
Multihull Central will have the range of
Takacats available to purchase online and are
currently on display at its Sydney marina.
