The Boating Industry
Association Ltd (BIA)
and the Boating Industry
Association of Victoria
(BIAV ) have signed an
agreement aimed at
developing closer national
cooperation to promote the
boating industry.
The BIA operates in
Queensland, New South
Wales, South Australia and
the Northern Territory, and
president Alan Blake has
signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with his
counterpart at the BIAV,

president Mark Crockford.
The agreement
will ensure the two
cooperate on national
and international policy
issues, and on projects
and services for members,
such as national statistics,
increasing participation
in boating, education and
accreditation, Marine Card
and access management
systems, and the timing of
events and boat shows.
They have agreed to
review their activities
and use complementary

programs to benefit
members and the industry
wherever possible.
“The Marine Card concept
is being reviewed by the
BIAV education committee
and has been discussed
with major Melbourne
businesses,” said John
Temple, CEO of the BIAV.
In addition, on invitation
representatives from each
organisation will sit in on
the other’s board meetings,
amongst a number of
cooperative actions.
“With new services being

developed, and many issues
on the national rather than
individual state agendas,
it is a good time to be
building a closer national
relationship”, said Howard
Glenn, chief executive
officer of the BIA.
“We look forward to
bringing the talent and
energy of the Victorian
industry representatives
into the national
discussions, and to the
better services we will
be able to offer all our
members as a result.”
