THE CHARTERING CHARMS OF ST LUCIA, CRUISING TO THE
GRENADINES & AUSTRALIA’S MOST DRAMATIC WATERFALLS
Founded by tire tycoon Harvey Firestone, who came up with the idea while
on board his yacht Marybelle, this Miami institution has been making waves
since it opened its doors on New Year’s Eve 1930. Hollywood royalty flocked
there because there was booze on the beach during Prohibition and lavish
themed dinners – one with elephants and another with 300 tables made of ice.
Earlier this year, following a five year redevelopment, the Surf Club, which
stretches across nine acres of pristine oceanfront in Surfside, reopened as a
77 room hotel with private residences. Architect Richard Meier has married modern design with
the golden age – three glistening glass buildings flank the original club house.
At the heart of the development lies a touch of the Amalfi Coast in Le Sirenuse champagne bar
and restaurant. Follow in the footsteps of Frank Sinatra and Winston Churchill and dine on the
outdoor terrace, which has panoramic views across the sparkling ocean. fourseasons.com/surfside
