Congrats on your purchase! What was
it about Tanzanite? I think I toured
more raised pilothouse and tri-deck
yachts before making my first purchase
than anyone before me! Over four years
my thinking evolved from looking for
a 100ft raised pilothouse to a 110ft,
to a “small” 130ft tri-deck, to my
eventual decision to purchase
Tanzanite (formerly Fighting Irish),
a 144ft tri-deck Westship with a wide
28ft beam. Clearly it was about the
volume; she carries 424 gross tonnes
and is an extremely gracious yacht. My
thinking evolved to a mid-sized tri-deck
as I realized we greatly valued space to
spread out. Like most tri-deck owners,
we wanted to move our outdoor dining
and sky lounge relaxing to the bridge
deck level and our outdoor spa pool and
sunbathing to the top sundeck level
She’s having some work done? We are
doing a total refit of the entire yacht at
Taylor Lane Shipyard. The principal
work is being overseen by our captain,
Don King, and completed by Luu Marine
and many other contractors. Our
interior design is being done with
Katia Bates of Innovative Creations.
The refit includes extending the
sundeck, an entire yacht paint job in
white, two brand new Kohler 99kW
generators, new zero speed stabilizers
from AB Trac, a new audiovisual
system, all new helm electronics,
new interior cabinetry, new furniture
and soft goods throughout, and the
addition of a new Intrepid center
console that we’ll tow
That’s a lot of work With the
hurricane delay, I think we are now
looking at January 15 as a hopefully
realistic completion date. We’re
planning a christening party for
February 3 so we are certainly
hoping it is done well before then
