Saltwater Boat Angling — November 2017

(vip2019) #1

6 Saltwater Boat Angling

An inexperienced Tubertini team
England won this year’s Home
Nations Boat Championship for the
second year running.
SCRABSTER: A rst day blitz, gave
the England Home Nations Boat
Team the platform for a memorable
victory in this years’ Home
international event held in Scrabster.
With nearly 3,200 sh recorded and
returned (mostly cod, haddock,
pollack, ling, gurnard and dabs) over
the two-day event, Tubertini Team

England recorded a massive
479% from a possible 500%
on the rst day to set up a
ne victory. The second day
saw an expected ‘bounce
back’ response from Ireland
and host nation Scotland,
but not sucient to
overturn England’s rst day
eorts and their day one
lead was only reduced by
3%, leaving them clear
winners by 31%.
Teamwork, organisation and
execution under the guidance of
Team Manager Steve Batchelor, lay at
the heart of the England
performance. Top England
performers were John Belamy, who
came second individually, to
Scotland’s’ Ally Campbell, with
England’s Steve Batchelor nishing
third. The remainder of the England
Team, Brett Lomas, Pete Bailey (rst
cap), and Gary Geoghegan (rst cap)
all produced match winning

performances to seal the victory, with
late reserve call up, Ray Ashby
providing the on-shore support. After
some initial diculties, the event was
well organised by the host Nation
Scotland and their organising team
plus boat skippers and stewards must
be congratulated on a successful
event. Ireland will be the hosts in
2018 in Cork, when England will be
hoping to make it three wins in a row.
England were sponsored by Tubertini,
with further help from Christchurch
Angling Centre, Tronix Pro and Vass
clothing. The team for the Home
Nations was chosen by an Angling
Trust Selection committee.
Day one
England 479.4%, Scotland 440.8%
Ireland 375.3%, Wales 370%
Day two
England 387.1%, Scotland 389.9%
Ireland 421.6%, Wales 321.2%
Overall
