Webasto’s new
front-opening
fridge is clever.
Not only does it
have an 83-litre
capacity in the
refrigerator
compartment
and 32-litre
capacity in the
freezer space,
it also stores
refrigeration energy.
The benefi t of this is that
when there’s an excess of
power available, the Freeline
115 Elegance will store that
energy for when it’s needed.
This, along with the high-
quality insulation, claims
its energy requirements
are 35% lower than existing
products on the market.

Judging by the number
of radio checks to the
coastguard during
a sunny day on the
Solent, you’d think
VHF radios were
unreliable. If you’re
thinking of replacing
yours, take a look at
Garmin’s VHF 210i and
if you don’t have an
exterior-mounted handset,
check out the GHS 11i.
The 210i is a small (9.8cm
x 19.7cm x 14.9cm) fi xed
handset with NMEA 2000
plug-and-play connectivity
but can also be connected

The march of technology is
relentless and no bit of kit
lasts forever, but replacing
kit is not always that easy, as
anyone who has cut a large
chartplotter-shaped hole
in their yacht will agree.
The problem is that different
multifunction displays have
different footprints, and
as screens get smaller and
clearer, a new multifunction
display will fall through
the hole left by an old one.
The good news for
Raymarine customers
wanting to upgrade to the
new Axiom series from an
older-generation display is
that it’s now possible to get
an adapter plate that’s been
engineered to fi t in the old
hole, with a new hole cut

Deciding whether you want
the hinges on the left
or right is made easier thanks
to the central handle. There's
also interior LED lighting.

to NMEA 0183. The
monochrome backlit
display shows the
selected channel and
the soft-button labels
are easy to read.
All functions can
be accessed via the 11i,
so you can fi t a handset
in a second location
and still have the
functionality of the radio
below. Both are IPX7 rated.

solution to an ongoing issue.

Down insulation is great, as
long as it’s ethically sourced

insulating properties and
takes an age to dry. Gill’s
