I highly recommend the use of

friend. He is now running a very
successful fly- and light-fishing
charter out of Brighton marina on his

job done, this is clear to see from
social media and his daily blogupdates, there aren’t many better to
put you on fish, if they are there,
while helping you fine-tune your
fishing skills and improve your

scales over the magic 10lb mark. After
a number of pictures, I gently cradled
the fish in the water, allowing it to get
its strength back before it strongly
swam off. What a feeling of immense
satisfaction, as I wondered if I would
ever hold such a large bass again.

PRIME FISHING
Prime fly fishing season runs parallel
with our spring, summer and autumn
months and, whilst sea bass are
present the year round, summer is
by far the most productive period
as mature, migrating fish venture
inshore. Very early summer and
autumn often produce the biggest
fish. It is vital to have an in-depth
knowledge of the area you aim to fish,
not only to ensure success but, also,
safety. Always let someone know
where you intend to fish, fish with a
friend or, better still, use the services
of a local guide to get you familiar
with a certain area. A day out on a
boat with a good professional fishing
guide can really ramp up your skills
and confidence. It will almost
certainly result in catching fish and
