Saltwater Boat Angling — December 2017

(Barry) #1

Saltwater Boat Angling 33

WEDNESDAY – Wreck day
Due to a strong Westerly wind many
of the boats decided not to go
wrecking, as anchoring and
positioning would be difficult.
Catches were generally poor and day
two’s leader Matt Osborne suffered,
achieving only 20%. A mixture of
conger eels, tope, spur dog, blonde
rays, undulates rays and black bream
were caught. The day was won by
Karl Dettmar from Germany and Jon
Law from Wales took the overall lead
with a total of 290%.

THURSDAY - One of each
species
Again, fishing conditions were
difficult due to strong winds but the
beauty of Weymouth is that you can
normally get out and fish in most
conditions. Jon Law won the day
with 14 species and 48 fish points.
At this point Jon lead the competition
with a total of 390%, second was
Scotland’s Derek Yuille with 378% and

third was Joel Luyts with 351%.

FRIDAY – Lures only
It’s always a fascinating day, going to
sea with no bait, and this year proved
to be no exception. This was
fortunately the best day for weather
and was fished in light winds and
bright sunshine. A wide variety of fish
were caught of various lures including
mackerel, scad, garfish, sand eel, pout,
poor cod, black bream, ballan wrasse,
cuckoo wrasse, other wrasse and
gurnards. The day was won by Perry
Dack with 176 fish points, only one
fish point ahead of Paul Hart, who was
again only one fish point ahead of
Thor Rasmussen. There was no
change to the overall placings on the
day with Jon Law of Wales taking a
splendid win with 485%. In second
place was Derek Yuille of Scotland and
third was Joel Luyts of Belgium. The
prizes were presented by Rachael
Bradwick of Fladen at the Weymouth
Angling Centre.
