Saltwater Boat Angling — December 2017

Let’s start
with a couple
from our

guru Des

Inova Finesse
Lead Clip
Scaling down your tackle to maximise
sport is a popular way of making
catching the fish in our waters more
enjoyable. Tying lighter rigs requires

components of a more delicate nature
and the Inova Finesse Lead clip is a
perfect example of such an item. It
consists of a simple bent wire “C” clip
having an open gap which is in turn
covered by a piece of heat shrink tube.
The heat shrink tube is threaded onto
the rig and the “C” clip is tied to the
end of the rig. The weight is hung from
the clip and to hold it in place the heat
shrink tube is drawn down over the
clip. It is a very simple but strong
arrangement; the size “L” is rated for
35lb. Available from Christchurch

Stonfo beads
As more and more anglers try glued
stops as part of their rig construction
methods, they are finding that for the
technique to be successful, you need
to have the correct components. For
glued bead stops this means having
the correct diameter of hole in the
bead for the line weight you are using.
If the hole is too small, there will be an
insufficient glue line and if the hole is
too big, the bond may be weak and it
is very wasteful of the glue. The easiest
solution to this is to use calibrated
bore beads and Stonfo make some of
the best. Available in a range of sizes
and steps from 0.3mm to 0.6mm these
quality Italian made beads mean you
can match the bead you are using
perfectly to the strength of the line

and at £2.24 for twenty-four, they are
a reasonable price too. Available from
Christchurch Angling Centre and

The Bungee
Spongee
The Bungee
Spongee is a
sponge on a
bungee cord, simple
but very handy, from washing your

hands after baiting up, to
cleaning the kayak and dry suit off at
the end of a cod session, and as it’s
attached to the kayak or boat you’re
never going to lose it. Absolutely
brilliant! £9.99. Available from all good
outlets but I found mine at the
Glasgow Angling Centre:

Tronixpro
spool holder
This handy spool
holder from
Tronixpro holds
10 rig spools and retails around
£7 to £8. Most anglers have lots of rigs
made up and stuffed in plastic bags or
left in packets they were bought in.
Wind a couple of each of your most
used rigs and colour code them using
the stickers provided and they are so

With Christmas on the horizon we thought it would be a great idea to get our contributors to make some
suggestions about what kind of present and angler might want in his or her stocking. We’ve got all
manner of stuff so we hope this gives you (or your partner or children) some inspiration. Just leave the
pages open on the coffee table and see what happens!
