Saltwater Boat Angling — December 2017

Saltwater Boat Angling 83

Poseidon I speed 300R Break

one piece anodized reel

We paired the rod with a
Poseidon reel, also from
Masterline, which is an
American reel primarily
designed for use with modern
speed-jigging and slow-
jigging techniques. However,
the reels do lend themselves
to all manner of boat fishing
situations and it certainly
worked well with the rod.
Poseidon reels are built using
ultra-tough materials and
components and offer strength,
performance and looks in equal
measure. The 300 single- or
dual-speed model would suit
any medium-line boat outfit
perfectly, as we proved.

I filled it with some Rovex
8 strand braid (£21.99 per
300 yard spool) and, with
the lever-drag system and
crank-reel handle with the
large ball-style grip, this
combo easily handled a
grumpy conger eel and large
thornback taking baits meant
for cod.
These reels are available in
both left- and right-hand wind
versions, a vast array of colours,
including the silver one I was
supplied with. They come in
several sizes too. All Poseidon
reels come supplied with a free
neoprene pouch for storage
and transport.
MAIN FEATURES INCLUDE:

  • Poseidon 300 Lever
    Drag Reel Features

It comes in at around £199,
pricey for a reel but these
are high-quality products,
beautifully engineered and
finished with a top-quality feel
about them. A joy to use.
To conclude, my crew and I
really enjoyed fishing with both
the rod and reel and while in
different budget ranges they
certainly go well together.
