Winning

Fishing
Winning Fishing is a new
application being developed
for leisure and commercial
fishermen and also with
applications in the field of
conservation. The objective
is to simplify the collection
and management of catch
data. Winning Fishing uses
mobile phones and tablets to
collect catch data, including
image, latitude and longitude
of location and time of catch
and provides a list of other
attributes to prompt the user to
enter catch data.
For process, review and
sorting of data, PC based
systems are more effective and
comfortable to use than the
now ubiquitous Android and
iOS devices. The PC can display
Navionics’ mapping software
app SonarChart™ which
enables catch results to be
overlaid on the high-resolution
contour charts.

FEATURES
Winning Fishing has a totally
flexible species database which
includes a number of levels
Top level: Species type (Default:
freshwater or seawater)
Mid-level: Species: e.g. cod etc
Lower level: Sub-species: e.g.
Atlantic cod, pollack etc

At any level entries can be
added, deleted or edited.
This allows the application to
be adapted for the local fish
population at any location
worldwide. The database can
also be used in other ways – for
example a pot line number/
description can be added at
the Species type level and this

can form the basis of record
keeping and review for creel
fishermen.

UNITS
The user can select units to be
used for each dimension as is
appropriate for their region of
use and personal preference.
If changed, the changed units
will immediately be reflected in
displayed catch lists.

CATCH DETAILS
There is a prompt to enable the
user to record details relating
to the catch.

These fall under several
main headings:
Bait/Lure, Gear/Rig, Method,
Type of Trip, Location,
Environment and Tide.

Catches can be overlaid on
Navionics navigation and
SonarChart™ on a Windows
PC. Data can be added
and edited for the catch as
required.

SECURITY
The user has the option
of storing catches on a
single device or sharing
them among any of the
user’s devices (when the
web service becomes
operational). The data is
protected using a user
name and password.

CROSS PLATFORM
FUNCTIONALITY
Winning Fishing comprises
three platforms and data
will be shared among any
of those selected by the user:

PC Windows, iOS (iPhone
and iPad) – all versions and
all versions of Android.
