he beauty of nature is often referenced in
Tiffany & Co’s high jewelry collections, the
most recent of which – The Art of the Wild
- stems from a trip the design team took to
the island of Kauai. The collection is divided into
sections, with the most spectacular being Whispers of
the Rain Forest. The centerpiece is a stunning necklace
based on Hawaii’s indigenous “hula” grass skirt.
The design may look tribal, but it is highly technical.
In-house artisans handcrafted gemstone covered fronds - stitched together with an intricate diamond rope – that
move with the wearer’s subtlest gesture. A collier, with
200 diamond baguettes set in platinum, features a stitch
of round pavé diamonds, which connects the collar to
more than 350 hand sculpted 18kt yellow gold fronds.
Time was, a serious businessman
carried just one bag – his briefcase.
This symbol of prosperity was part
of his daily armor, but it also spoke
volumes about his personal style,
whether he was an average Joe or
a titan of industry.
Times have changed. Today’s office
can be anywhere a man chooses, and
his carry-all can be anything he likes,
“We continuously push the boundaries of craftsmanship
and innovation in every way,” says Melvyn Kirtley, chief
gemologist and vice president of high jewelry.
“Every single year we’re looking for different ways to
produce pieces that are so technically complicated, they
seem almost impossible. But this is where we make the
impossible happen.” This is a statement necklace that
will add drama to any décolleté.

but there are still plenty of
opportunities for stylish self
expression.
The status briefcase hasn’t
completely disappeared; it’s simply
morphed into something a lot more
fun. Just ask the team at the Italian
leather goods company, A Testoni,
creators of this glossy black crocodile
backpack. They recognize that a man
oesn’t have to appear rigid or
ptight to be taken seriously.
Similarly, the designers and
craftsmen behind this piece are well
aware that an object this beautiful
is more than just a bag; it’s a
statement. And the lucky guy who
carries it will look like he runs an
empire, no matter where his commute
takes him.
