Like most things in
life, you get what you
pay for, and you can
reasonably expect them
to outlast your boat.

Binoculars
are essentially
two telescopes
mounted side
by side to allow
binocular vision
and an impression
of depth.
In the 1600s, early
binoculars used
Galilean optics,
which present an
erect image, but
a narrow field of
view and limited
magnification.
In the 1800s
Keplerian optics
were adopted,
usually with prisms
to turn the inverted
image right way up.
