fter more than 135,000 man-hours the
maxi Banque Populaire IX has been
launched in Lorient, France.
The 32m trimaran is designed for
the 2019 single-handed around the globe race,
skippered by Armel Le Cleac’h.
Perhaps her most striking feature is the
installation of foils and rudders with lifting surfaces.
These appendages should translate into speeds
never before achieved by boats of this size. The
target cruising speed is 50 knots.

n July next year Fiji’s Beqa Lagoon Resort is
hosting the world Shark Fest, an adrenaline-
filled week of shark encounters and
interactive seminars with internationally-
renowned shark expert, Dr. Erich Ritter.
Ritter is a pioneer in shark-human interaction.
His main focus and purpose during Shark Fest
is to bring humans closer to sharks, focusing on
how to interact with them and to emphasize
their crucial importance in the marine realm. By
sharing his passion for sharks, he hopes to raise
public awareness about how important sharks
are for the oceans.
