Our cover boat this month is a Mylne design that a former owner tweaked because he fancied a

more ‘Fife-like’ sheer. Glendhu is part of the Glen class and other Glens do exist, but

nonetheless, to tamper with such maritime heritage will be seen by many people as little less than

sacrilege, especially given Mylne’s standing. I can’t help being dismayed at the idea myself, but I

wonder how much right I have to complain. Glendhu was twice very close to being broken up, but her

two most recent owners took her on and have lavished time and money on her. Now she is the pride and joy

of her current owner, well-used as a family boat and in good enough condition to see her through many more

decades afl oat. Widescale doctoring of signifi cant designs is not something anyone would welcome, but for sure

it’s far better that an old wooden boat like Glendhu sails on than goes to the breaker’s yard.
