Bombardier Q400s and six Saab 340s.

The Kagoshima-based carrier, the
regional arm of Japan Airlines, became the
second Japanese operator of ATR aircraft
after Amakusa Airlines, which received its
initial ATR 42-600 in August 2015.
Manufacturer ATR remains con dent

Japanese market, noting that more
than a third of domestic routes are less
than 300nm (556km), a range suited

to its turboprop aircraft. ATR’s CEO,
Stefano Bortoli, noted: “Following the
successful introduction of the ATR 42 in
Japan last year there’s no better proof
of the quality of our aircraft than now
seeing the ATR 72-600 ready to y in
Japan. Regional aviation provides vital
connectivity to countries all over the
world, increasing tourism and boosting
local economies.”

Scottish airline Loganair has introduced its rst jet aircraft. The 37-seat Embraer ERJ135ER,
G-SAJB (c/n 145473, ex G-RJXJ), transferred from sister company ybmi on October 19. It’s
expected to be used on the Inverness to Manchester service and will soon be joined by a 50-
seat ERJ145. Paul Ferry

The rst aircraft to be added to the new Irish
‘EJ’ register has been delivered to GainJet
Ireland. The Embraer Lineage 1000, EJ-
IOBN (c/n 19000632), was handed over at
Shannon Airport on October 16, almost 90
years to the day that the rst aircraft, an Avro
Avian, entered the Irish registry as EI-AAA
in October 1928.Patrick Edmond, managing
director of the International Aviation Services
Centre (IASC) at Shannon, remarked:
“Ireland already has a worldwide reputation
as a leading air nance jurisdiction, and the

Irish Aviation Authority is a world-leading
regulator. The EJ register combines these
strengths for the corporate aviation space
and delivers an onshore EASA register which
is guaranteed fully compliant with Part NCC
[Non-commercial operations with complex
motor-powered aircraft]. It’s truly the new gold
standard. And with our best-in-class partners,
Shannon is the obvious choice for ensuring

fast and tax-efficient EJ registration.” GainJet’s
CEO Ray Mills added: “It’s been an amazing
year. We started at Shannon with three jets
back in 2016. We chose Shannon because
it’s a strategically located European base that
connects continents. Moreover, thanks to the
growing IASC cluster, it’s become a major
aviation hub for leasing companies and for
Atlantic crossing traffic.”
