(Greg DeLong) #1
SECTION FOUR

AN INTEGRATED VIEW

CONTEXT

  • The marketplace is complex and problems cross disciplinary lines
    and perspectives.

  • Academic research tends to be disciplinary in nature.

  • Terminology is a major impediment to truly integrated approaches.

OBJECTIVES

  • To emphasize the importance of economic considerations in
quality assessment of fresh fruits and vegetables and present
approaches for integrating economics and quality.

  • To present the IQM model, which integrates quality assessment
of processed vegetables with consumer requirements.

  • To incorporate use of soft-systems methodology as a basis for
integrating research on fresh fruit and vegetable quality.

  • To use a problem-based approach as a point of integration for
research on fruit and vegetable quality.

  • To provide a set of terms and concepts that will help serve as a
basis for integrated approaches to fruit and vegetable quality.
