The AHA Guidelines and Scientifi c Statements Handbook
seeks to determine whether combined implantable
cardiac defi brillator (ICD)-cardiac resynchroniza-
tion therapy (CRT-D) will reduce the risk of mortal-
ity and heart failure (HF) events in patients with
nonischemic or ischemic cardiomyopathy.
There are several early studies of the value of
stem cell therapy for the reduction of ventricu-
lar arrhythmias, particularly after myocardial
infarction. To date confl icting result have been
reported.
