35.6.2 LDL Values

LDL cholesterol below 100 mg/dl is desirable. LDL greater than 150 mg/dl indicates
increased risk to cardiovascular diseases. Out of all the forms of cholesterol in the
blood, LDL levels are considered the most important factor in determining risk of
heart diseases.

35.6.3 HDL Values

Normal range of HDL cholesterol is 30–60 mg/dl in the human blood. HDL less than
40 mg/dl indicates high risk of heart disease. HDL is called good cholesterol since it
transports cholesterol from peripheral tissues for its degradation, and hence it
removes excess cholesterol from tissues.

35.6.4 Triglycerides

A normal level of triglycerides is less than 150 mg/dl in fasting condition. It is
unusual to have high triglycerides without having high cholesterol. High levels of
triglycerides increase the risk of developing pancreatitis.
