- Fructose: It may be found in urine after taking food rich in fructose (fruits, honey,
syrup, and jams). It may be found in liver disease and in the urine of diabetics
along with glucose.
Apart from these sugars, pentoses, glucuronides, and homogentisic acid are also
present under some pathological conditions which can also reduce Benedict’s
reagent. Higher concentration of uric acid and creatinine also reduce Benedict’s
qualitative reagent.
