Helsinki Festival
(17 August – 2 September)
Helsinki Festival is Finland’s largest arts
festival, bringing classical and world
music, theatre, dance, circus, visual
arts and a range of urban events to the
capital. This year’s programme line-
up includes international names such
as Curtis Harding, Calexico and Kyle
Abraham, as well as local artists like
Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ellinoora and Pikku
Papun Orkesteri.

The Jadid Series (20 August)
This event is the first edition of The
Jadid Series (meaning “new” in Arabic)
— a series of concerts featuring groups
that have never before played together.
Taking place at Café Oto in Dalston, the
evening will feature the debut perfor-
mance from an improvising trio of British
pianist Pat Thomas, Danish saxophon-
ist Julie Kjær and Irish singer Lauren
Kinsella. 7.30pm, Café Oto, 18–22 Ashwin

Mads Holm’s About Common Ground
(until 23 August)
Danish artist Mads Holm is presenting
his first solo show in Glasgow, in col-
laboration with Selected Artists’ Works
and SWG3. Among the artworks pre-
sented are pieces from his expanding
series About Common Ground — an
experiment in continuous photographic
studies of states and movements in con-
temporary society. 100 Eastvale Place,
