commitment to growth. And it’s just the beginning.

Indorama Ventures:

FUTURE-PROOFING SUCCESS

Since its start more than two decades ago,
Bangkok-based petrochemical company
Indorama Ventures (IVL) has emerged
as an integrated chemicals company
with global leadership in key feedstocks,
polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, and
the specialty fibers businesses. Its global
expansion strategy has largely consisted
of acquisitions in developed markets
such as North America and Europe while
simultaneously building up an asset base
in Asia, and it is unique in owning West
Africa’s only PET production site, in Nigeria,
completing its positioning in four of the
world’s major continents.
Led by its charismatic founder, Group
CEO Aloke Lohia, the company listed on
the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2010
and now has a market capitalization of
more than US$7 billion and an enterprise
value exceeding US$10 billion. Strategically
acquisitive, Lohia has built a global empire
that currently consists of 74 manufacturing
sites and 11 research and development
centers as well as numerous sales offices
around the world.

Widening Its Reach
With the aspiration of being “a world-
class chemical company making great
products for society,” IVL aims to double

in size every five years. This ambitious
target is being achieved by strengthening
its core businesses to accelerate growth in
attractive market segments and regions.
For example, its expected acquisition of
DuPont Teijin Films, subject to regulatory
approval, will diversify the company’s
portfolio into polyester films and offer
customers a broader platform of related
products. In addition, its expansion into
high value-added segments, such as fibers

for automotive, has led to collaborative
projects with a number of major industry
partners and customers. Such combinations
will “future-proof” the company, allowing it
to shape its future regardless of regional
economics and short-term cycles.

Leader in Sustainability
An enduring theme of the company has
been to deliver outstanding value to its

investors and stakeholders. To do this,
it conducts today’s business with one
eye fixed on the future. A sustainable
business is part of the rigour of being a
global industrial powerhouse and IVL has
taken measures to reduce the environ-
mental impact of its operations, which
include efficient use of water, energy and
a decrease in waste, as well as ac tively pro-
moting recycling and the use of renewable
resources. It has held itself to high stan-
dards of corporate governance, ethics
and transparency, achieving a listing in
the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and
is currently positioned among the top five
most sustainable chemical companies in
the world.

Ingredient for Growth
Innovation is the lifeblood of any com-
pany, but to achieve this, people have
to be ready to see change as an oppor-
tunity. The corporate imperative has
been to gain the commitment of all the
company’s 15,000 employees, and IVL
has adhered closely to its core value to
put people first. This has meant focus-
ing closely on training and develop-
ment, which the company’s Group CEO
considers key to the future growth of
the company.

As IVL continues to acquire new busi-
nesses, management’s goal has been to
integrate them quickly by focusing on
accountability and empowerment. Its
strategic advantages have proven time
and again to be its vast global footprint,
its encompassing multiculturalism and its
drive for shared success.

Aloke Lohia, Group CEO of Indorama

Power Players and was Global Banking
and Finance Review magazine’s pick

Asia 2016.
