SILENT AND STEALTHY

By Jason Isley, Scubazoo

HAVING COMPLETED MY CCR course
on Malapascua, we headed over to
Monad Shoal to test the stealth ability
of the rebreather and photograph
some thresher sharks. Not only did the
rebreather increase our dive time at a
maximum depth of 24 metres, but it also
enabled us to get up close and personal
with these incredible sharks, as CCR
instructor Matt Reed demonstrates...

THIS DRIFT DIVE from Bunutan at
Amed, Bali on rEVO rebreathers was just
fantastic. It was a fun dive with my CCR
instructor Marc Crane. We entered from
the beach and were picked up by boat an
hour and 45 minutes later.
For the first time in my life, I saw an
eagle ray lying on the bottom, totally
relaxed as we passed quietly by. Below
40 metres, while the colours seemed dull,
the reef felt more pristine, possibly due
to less impact from storms, fishermen,
divers, and boats.
At depth, you can often find the same
reef critters as you find in the shallows,
like this whip goby. I’ve taken many
close-focus wide-angle shots of them,
but this time it was great to have a tek
diver for background interest. AD
