Gathering information

and resources, then carefully

planning a search are the first important

steps you learn in this course. During

four scuba dives you’ll practise:

• Planning a search operation based
  on facts gathered about a lost object
  prior to the dive


• Swimming search patterns using your
  compass and natural navigation


• Locating large and small objects using
  various search patterns


• Using a lift bag for large or heavy
  objects, plus other recovery methods
  The first dive of this PADI Specialty
  Diver course may credit as an Adventure
  Dive toward your Advanced Open Water
  Diver certification.

SSI SEARCH & RECOVERY

This programme provides the skills and

concepts required to safely plan and

conduct search and recovery dives.

During one confined water session and

two open water dives, you will learn:

• Search patterns and specialised
  dive plans


• Underwater communication


• How to recover small to medium-
  sized objects using specialised
  equipment like lift bags
  You will earn the SSI Search and
  Recovery Specialty certification after
  completing this programme.

SDI SEARCH &

RECOVERY DIVER

This course is for the

certified diver looking

for comprehensive

information to maximise the use of

search and recovery for scuba diving.

Over a minimum of two open water

dives, you can expect to learn skills

including:

• Natural navigation, compass use, and
  estimating distances


• Limited visibility diving, factors

limited visibility

• Search techniques including circular
  searches, grid searches, and current
  (overlap) searches


• Signals for search diving, salvage
  techniques, depth considerations,
  lift bags, lifting drums, knots, rigging
  and more
  The SDI Search and Recovery Diver
  certification counts towards a single
  specialty rating to achieve the SDI
  Advanced Diver Development Program.
