Ojetade is part of this literary movement, which was created by writers of
African descent in about 2012 as a reaction to the “retro-futuristic” liter-
ary genre of steampunk, whose narratives, sometimes set in anachronistic
Victorian environments, hitherto excluded black characters and experi-
ences. The future will show what becomes of the figure of Lance Spear-
man, if appropriated by this latter-day blaxploitation genre.
