uman thoughts are ever-evolving.
You may have been a naturally born
non-vegetarian, but somehow, one
fi ne day you fi nd yourself tossing
out all the meat and meat
products from your fridge and
shelves, replacing them with vegetarian options.
Suddenly, your life is all about being a vegan. Such
is the world we live in, dominated by trends. While
some trends are transient (more so if you lack
conviction), there are others that are relatively
easier to stick by and follow.
Of late, the country has been witnessing
an organic craze. Organic, in this context,
does not just mean in the subject of farming


  • ranging from makeup and apparel, to food
    and beverages, there has been a tremendous
    rise in the demand for organic goods. What’s
    fascinating is the pace at which the trend
    is picking up. More and more stores are
    emerging, asserting what they sell is free of
    chemicals and all-natural. One such instance
    is The Kirana Shop located at Meherchand
    Market in New Delhi, which stocks up
    on everything that is naturally produced,
    promotes an alternate lifestyle through
    natural food, artefacts and cosmetics.
    Superfoods like chia seeds, fi bre-loaded quinoa,
    an assortment of berries and nuts, are just few
    of the things that can be found on the shelves of
    this all-organic store. “Organic food is increasingly
    becoming popular due to its perceived health benefi ts,”
    commented Ragini Mehra, founder of The Kirana Shop.
    “People are becoming more conscious about what they
    are eating. Also, there is a growing awareness among
    people regarding the harmful effects of food with
    chemicals and preservatives on their bodies,”
    she added.
    A number of restaurants have fast gained
    popularity for their completely all-organic menu.
    Among many, Lumiere Organic Restaurant in Bangalore
    and Cochin is one name that frequently pops up. It
    started off as an organic farm in 2003, which fi nally
    led to two outlets, serving food and juices free of
    chemicals. Apart from the organic farm and restaurant,
    Lumiere also boasts a store and a bakery.
    Several tea brands have also come up with healthier
    options for tea lovers. SuiGeneris Inc. has recently
    unveiled caffeine free and 100 per cent organic CC tea
    in the capital. This special brew has been exclusively
    prepared from Cymbopogon Citratus, and contains no
    artifi cial fl avours or additives.


In the fi eld of cosmetics, organic brands are
aplenty. Organic shampoo, lotion, face and hand
cream, soap – there’s everything for anything. Tatha
from The Vedic Collection offers different ranges of
skincare products; they even have a whole line of
refreshing organic fragrances and mineral makeup.
With natural ingredients, they lack the harshness of
chemicals and do wonders for the skin. Other organic
cosmetic brands such as Organic Harvest are also
readily available in the market.
The trend of organic clothing is similarly gaining
momentum. Talking about the growing fad, Shivani
Nirula, creative head of ESKA Yoga-Active-Lounge
Apparel remarked, The market is slowly but surely
becoming more sensitised towards concepts of
‘eco-fashion’ and environmental friendly materials,
although there is still a lot of scope for increased
awareness. It is great that consumers are taking a
keen interest in not just the product, but its creation
and the story behind it as well!”
With so many all-natural options, there is no
doubt that the organic obsession is here to stay and
grow in the years to come.
