ome winter and binging reaches its all-time high, as dipping
temperatures and hunger bouts walk hand in hand. Every time your
stomach growls, you fi nd yourself raiding the refrigerator, trying to fi nd
something to eat, something to keep you warm. So, what do you do
when those extra calories start piling up, and you’ve put on that spare
tyre? Wait for the spring, to exercise it off, of course. No, wrong answer.
You eat things that keep you from piling on those pounds. Things that keep you warm
on the outside, while burning those excess calories on the inside.
Take for example the humble oats, a bowlful has the potential of keeping you full
and provide you with lasting energy for at least half a day. Also if you eat it for breakfast
with a handful of dried fruits, chances are you’ll be consuming at least, one third less
calories at lunch time. In fact, making it a meal by adding a fruit such as the apple or
orange and a bit of almonds makes it a delicious snack as well.
Here’s the interesting bit, if you eat local, seasonal produce, chances are you’ll
be losing weight any which way. “There’s a season that we only get certain fruits
of vegetables at a certain point in the year,” says Delhi-based nutrition consultant
Sangeeta Khanna. “Its nature’s way of ensuring that you get the best possible nutrition.
