Flying from Adelaide only takes approximately 45 minutes
to the Eyre Peninsula’s Port Lincoln, which is approximately
seven hours from Adelaide. As well, one of the most scenic
road trips takes you through Port Augusta – the gateway to
the outback on the edge of the majestic Flinders Ranges at
the top of Spencer Gulf. This is also the most efficient route at
660 kilometres.
However you get there, you’ll discover the sheer vastness
of the Eyre Peninsula enables a huge diversity of plants and
animals to thrive here. The gorges and gullies of Gawler Ranges
National Park provide a peaceful sanctuary to more than 160
species of wildlife, including 21 rare and threatened species.
In winter, the Great Australian Bight Marine Park is the
place to go whale watching or visit the clifftop lookout at
Point Labatt Conservation Park to see Australian sea lions and
New Zealand fur seals bask on the beach and rocks. Pods of
dolphins are regular visitors to the sheltered bays of Lincoln
National Park, with resident emus, reptiles and western grey
kangaroos also at home in the park. If you’re lucky, you may
even see a rare white-bellied sea eagle or an osprey swoop
down into the blue to snatch a fish for dinner.

Yet, despite such lavish offerings from Nature, the audacious
surprises keep coming. A scenic catamaran ride from Port
Lincoln, the second-largest city on the lower Eyre Peninsula
nestled on the shore of Boston Bay, brings you to a world-class
tuna pontoon. Here, an exclusive and unique experience – and a
world’s first – comes to life: hand feeding the mighty Southern
Bluefin Tuna from a platform. If you’re the sort to plunge in and
grab experience by the horns, then you won’t regret donning a
wetsuit and jumping in. There is nothing like hand feeding one
of the fastest fish on Earth, in its own environment.
While you’re on an adrenaline high, check out the once-
in-a-lifetime cage diving with majestic great whites. Head out
to ‘shark bay’ at Neptune Island, approximately 70 km south of
Por t Lincoln, and experience Australia's only eco-friendly shark
cage diving tour.
What's left to do is venture inland and hand-feed kangaroos
and koalas, sandboard towering dunes, snorkel and kayak in
crystal-clear waters, try your hand at beach fishing or share a fish
charter, cruise the beautiful waters of Coffin Bay, explore the
jaw-dropping Talia Caves – the list is almost endless! Indeed,
the memories of your wildlife encounters will stay with you
long after you leave the Eyre Peninsula.
