One of these new young haute
horticulture Instagram stars is
Arthur Parkinson. A handsome
twentysomething, with stints at
Kew Gardens and Sarah Raven
as well as two books – The Flower
Ya r d and The Pottery Gardener

  • Parkinson has 86,000 followers
    on Instagram, where he posts
images of him at work in the
    garden and humorous memes
    (often featuring French & Saunders).
    Alan Titchmarsh he ain’t.
    Meanwhile, Charlie
    McCormick captures the beauty
of the gardens he shares in West
Dorset, the west coast of Scotland
and a rooftop in Bloomsbury with
    his husband, the architect Ben
    Pentreath (who has worked
with the Duke and Duchess of
    Cambridge). The darlings of the
    cut-flower coterie are Henrietta
    Courtauld and Bridget Elworthy,
    aka the Land Gardeners (74,500
    followers on Instagram). The
    fresh flowers from the walled
    gardens at Wardington Manor,
    Oxfordshire (Elworthy’s home),
are much coveted. The duo have
    appeared in Vogue and World
    of Interiors. They published
    a book (The Land Gardeners:
Cut Flowers) in 2020 and have
    recently won awards for their
    work with climate compost. Who
    knew soil was so sexy?
Now there are plenty of ways
to embrace the fashion for flora:
Niwaki has all the tools you
    need to tend to a bonsai tree;
    Birkenstock’s rubber clogs are as
    popular with urban fashionistas
    as they are with suburban
    gardeners; chore jackets and
cargo pants are all the rage. n
