2014 Americana winner Sammy Halbert
(both on Hondas) lifted their game with
polished wins in their third-round heats.
The intensity of the racing brought some
casualties. USA star Brad Baker (Honda) and
Japanese rider Masatoshi Ohmori (Suzuki)
tangled, but Broc Parkes (Yamaha) was more
seriously injured in another accident.
The action in the Legends class was
hardly less intense, with the top four riders
dominating. A new recruit took the honours,
with four-times World Long Track champion
Joonas Kylmakorpi (KTM) winning two of the
three races despite poor starts, thanks to
several stunning passes of Jason Crump
(KTM) and Darren Herrick (Honda).
Kylmakorpi also had the honour of
recording the fastest lap time, ahead of the
experienced All Stars riders.
Even with more Australian dirt trackers
included in the All Stars fi eld there was still
a classy line-up for the Pro 450 class, whichwas to fi nd the fi nal qualifi ers for both the
Americana and the SuperPole Shootout, the
top six and top two riders, respectively,
progressing to those features.
With the fi nal not held because of the
rain, honours were declared after the three
rounds with Carew Dickinson (Honda)
edging former Australian champions Jace
Castles (Yamaha) and Luke Gough (Honda).
The strength of the Pro 450 class was
again evidenced with the likes of Ian
Hamilton (Yamaha), Kye Thomson
(Kawasaki) and Tom Herrick (Honda)
heading the Repechage, as the rank and fi le
of dirt track strived to emulate the feat of
Kirkness who had to qualify this way before
winning the fi rst Classic in 2013.
For the third year, Tayla Jones (Yamaha)
won an ultra-competitive women’s class
where just one point separated four riders.
Keegan Pickering, Briony Hendrickson and
