THE BEST OF WELLNESS

RANVEER SINGH

Fitness & wellness are two sides of the
same coin
A happy state of mind is essential for the
overall health of the body. So fitness and
wellness are not two different things.
But you cannot be fit until you feel well
and you cannot feel good about yourself
until you are fit. So they are two sides of
the same coin.

Being in shape is a huge boost
for my con dence
Wellness is the confidence to feel good
about the way you look and live. I was
very overweight as a teenager. But as I
lost the baby fat and started building my
body, I began to feel good about myself.
Feeling good because you are in great
shape is a huge high! In the profession
that I am in, being fit happens to be very
important, and knowing that I look good
and live well is very heartening. It keeps
me on my toes.

I am an endomorph, so losing
weight isn’t easy
I work out twice a day – 90 minutes
daily irrespective of whether I need
to strip for a role or not. If I do need
to strip, the workout is much more

intensive. On regular days, I do about
30 minutes of strength training and
the same amount of cardio. Swimming
and running are important for me to
maintain flexibility and muscle tone.
I am an endomorph – someone who
has the tendency to put on weight – so
bulking up is easy, but losing weight isn’t.

I lift suitcases as weights
When I travel, there are places where
I might not have access to a gym. In
that case, I improvise. I always carry
my Theraband – mostly used for
physiotherapy. It is great for stretches,
free squats and shoulder and chest
presses. I do pull ups with door frames.
And even lift suitcases instead of
weights. Swimming, cycling and playing
a sport are great options too.

Eating carbohydrates is a big no-no
I never let my love for food get in the
way of sculpted abs. I eat every three
hours and my meals include foods rich
in proteins and low in carbohydrates,
such as boiled eggs with salt and pepper,
fresh fruits and dry fruits. For lunch
and dinner, I eat lean meat with a
bowl of vegetables and sprouts. Eating

carbohydrates like rotis, bread or pasta
is totally off the table. I also believe
that high water intake is a must for
maintaining a fit body.

I did High Intensity Training
for Ram-Leela
For my role in Ram-Leela, I needed
to be very fit. I had to undergo three
months of functional training, which
mainly involves a lot of free-hand
exercises, core strengthening and lifting
your own weight. The duration of my
training was 45 minutes a day, including
a 10-minute warm up and a 20-minute
workout with a break in between. The
key lies in doing everything at a rapid
pace and it is called High Intensity
Training (HIT). The regime included
dips, thrusters, push ups, pull ups and
burpees. You have to give it your all in
those 20 minutes. My fitness trainer also
monitored every meal and the portions
of food I ate.

Swimming is a great stress buster
Whenever life takes a toll on me, I pack
my bags and travel. I love going to new
places. Swimming destresses me too.
