The cabin in itself was quite silent;
turns out the A380 is known to off er
the quietest cabin of any existing
passenger aircraft. I guess you
just hope your co-passengers also
believe in silence.
There’s a reasonable-sized storage
drawer on the side panel of the seat,
enough to stash an ipod, phone,
magazines, and passport—the usual
paraphernalia. I also had to myself
two USB sockets, and a personal
in-seat power socket, which easily fi t
EU/ UK and US plugs.
The toiletries kit I was handed came
with an array of scented products
from Elemis, along with socks and
the essentials. I’d already indulged in
15 minutes in the massage chair at
the Elemis Spa at Heathrow before
I boarded. BA actually off ers this
complimentary service for First and
Club World passengers, as well as Gold
card Executive Club members when
travelling long haul in any cabin. I was
happy to add the contents of my kit to
the samples I’d received at the spa.
The next surprise came when
I opened the door to the restroom to
put the kit to use. The restroom is
massive; meaning I actually had to
take a few steps to get to the mirror!
The crew on board was all smiles
and soft voices; the perfect mix of
hospitable and privacy-conscious.
A lovely gentleman even used the pin
on his name badge to help me change
the sim card on my iPhone. Props to
you for that one, sir!
Club World always offers a choice
of two starters, four main courses,
and dessert or cheese, and the menus
change every month. My co-passenger
didn’t seem particularly impressed
with the steak, but I enjoyed a lovely
meal of salmon and greens, and even
helped myself to the open snack bar
between meals.
To arrive in Miami having
achieved a couple of hours of solid
sleep, with a handbag full of travel-
size quick fixes for my face and
hands, I can safely say I lost track of
