Mercedes-Benz has introduced the
all-new GLC in Singapore at a launch
event on 29 January, and the GLC
is a compact SUV that is poised to
tackle the likes of the BMW X3 and
Audi Q5 in the highly-competitive
premium crossover market.
The GLC replaces the GLK, a
model that was not previously
available for sale in Singapore
as it was not engineered for
right-hand-drive markets, and
the new car boasts a neat
interpretation of Mercedes-
Benz’s current styling language,
clothed in a sleek, sensuous
and yet conservative body that
is designed to offer plenty of

mass appeal. The car sits on the
platform of the highly-popular
W205 C-Class, and so should be
familiar to many Mercedes fans.
For the time being, just one
engine variant will be offered,
namely the GLC250 4MATIC. This
par-ticular variant is powered by
a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-
four that produces 211bhp and
350Nm of torque, and enables
the car to go from 0-100km/h
in 7.1 seconds, on to a top
speed of 222km/h. Mercedes-
Benz’s 4MATIC all-wheel-drive
system is also standard on the
GLC, ensuring excellent off-
roading ability when required.

Volvo has unveiled the V90,
an all-new estate that blends
the company’s long heritage of
station wagons, with a sleek
modern style that is designed to
appeal to a younger market. The
V90 com-plements the recently-
announced S90 sedan and the
new XC90 SUV in Volvo’s big car
line-up, and is set to push Volvo
into the premium segment.
Like the S90 and XC90, the
V90 is built on Volvo’s Scalable
Product Architecture (SPA) modular
platform, and features cutting edge
safety technology, as is typical from
the Swedish carmaker. The V90 is
available with Pilot Assist semi-
autonomous driving technology,

as well as features such as Large
Animal Detection and Run-off Road
Mitigation systems to greater assist
the driver in challenging conditions.
The V90 boasts a cargo capacity
of 1526 litres with the seats folded
down, ensuring plenty of prac-ticality
as one would expect from a Volvo
wagon. Engine options include the
2.0-litre petrol T5 with 245bhp, the
same unit in T6 guise producing
320bhp, a couple of diesel versions,
as well as the top-of-the-range T
Hybrid variant, which combines the
T6’s engine with an electric motor
at the rear powered by a lithium-ion
battery, for a total output of 410bhp.
Both the T6 and T8 models will also
have all-wheel-drive as standard.
