decades. However,
none have had more
impact or been
more iconic than the
Unidyne microphone.

In January 2014, the Insti tute of Electrical
and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) presented
Shure with the Milestone Award for the
Unidyne technology. Being honoured with
the presti gious award puts Shure in the same
company as famed inventors: Guglielmo
Marconi, Nikola Tesla, Michael Faraday, and
Benjamin Franklin.


The honour also puts the inventi on of the
Unidyne technology alongside landmark
events such as the inventi on of the fi rst
computer and the Apollo Space program. To
mark this achievement, and to commemorate
the 75th anniversary of the development and

Shure Celebrates Unidyne Microphone’s 75th


Anniversary
availability of the 55 Unidyne microphone,
Shure has announced a new Limited Editi on
Unidyne model, the 5575LE Unidyne Limited
Editi on Cardioid Dynamic Microphone.


A special anniversary version of the iconic
55 Unidyne cardioid dynamic microphone,
the 5575LE replicates the original design,
with appropriate improvements in durability
and sound quality. A sublime recreati on
for collectors, the serialized limited editi on
5575LE features the current Unidyne III
cardioid element, the classic large outer
grill, vintage badging, and zinc die-cast, with
a silver fi nish desk stand. The microphone
comes in an aluminium fl ight case with 75th
anniversary logo branding, and includes two
Unidyne photo prints and a certi fi cate of
authenti city, featuring a tribute from Shure
Chairman Rose L. Shure. Only 5575 pieces of
this model will be available worldwide.

Introduced in 1939, the 55 Unidyne was
swift ly adopted as the microphone of choice
for broadcast, public address, recording, and
two-way radios. As the popularity of the 55
grew, it found its way into many performance
environments that would cement its iconic
status and legacy as “the microphone that
needs no name.”

To the industry, the 55 Unidyne provided
control of feedback and reducti on of off -axis
ambient sound. In the hands of popular
performers and heads of state, the 55
Unidyne became recognized as a familiar
cultural presence and a sign of quality.
Its design has come to symbolize what
many think of when they hear the word
“microphone.”

The Shure 5575LE Unidyne Limited Editi on
Cardioid Dynamic Microphone will be
available in Asia from February 2015 at a
suggested retail price of US$399.

Mackie And Audinate Join Forces For


Dante Expansion Of DL32R
INTERNATIONAL: Mackie, legendary maker
of professional audio mixers, loudspeakers,
studio monitors and recording equipment,
and Audinate, developers of the Dante
media networking soluti on, have joined
forces to bring high performance
networked audio to the DL32R wirelessly
controlled digital live sound mixer with the
new DL Dante Expansion Card.

The DL32R is controlled completely
wirelessly, using the Mackie Master
Fader control app for iPad, freeing sound
engineers to mix from any locati on in a
venue.

The new DL Dante Expansion Card provides
32x32 channels of network audio I/O,
allowing the DL32R to be connected to
any Dante-powered AV network. Flexible

IO patching in the DL32R lets the user route
Dante signals to any channel input, and send
any of the mixer’s outputs to the Dante
network.

"Dante is the clear choice for AV networking,"
said Ben Olswang, Mackie Senior Product
Manager. "Dante allows the DL32R to
connect to hundreds of Dante-enabled audio
devices with the seamless interoperability
and ease of use that are hallmarks of

The DL Dante Expansion Card ships with
a license for Dante Virtual Soundcard
soft ware, allowing direct recording/
playback of up to 64 channels of audio
from any Dante network to a PC or Mac
computer.
