Is it just me or does the
past always have a way of
fi nding us?

Nothing is safe from the past, not
even technology. I recently read
an arti cle about binaural recording
systems - a hundred-year-old
method of audio recording
that captures lifelike 3D audio
in picture-perfect quality. In a
nutshell, binaural means to listen
with both ears at the same ti me.
Usually, the two sides of your
brain take their turns working
in perfect harmony. However,
binaural recording systems can
transform any room into an inti mate live music
venue, targeti ng both parts of your brain at once
to consider it immersive would be putti ng it mildly.
You can ‘experience’ it for yourself and get to know
more about it through this arti cle on The Verge’s
website:

And again, this is nothing new. This method of recording has literally
been around for a century. Yet, it’s going through a revitalisati on
now and getti ng more recognised as the world of technology moves
toward the 3D-sphere.

I fi nd the concept of the past aff ecti ng the present very interesti ng.
It was a theme that I feel aff ected one of our special features in
this issue, ‘Singapore’s Nightlife Dissected. From external sources
to the over-enthusiasm of club owners, the Singapore nightlife has
been through a lot. While it is sti ll considered vibrant, the past has
defi nitely aff ected what it is today. Whether it be for bett er or worse?
I’ll let you decide.

For this issue, I feel parti cularly blessed because we were privileged
enough to not only cover the grand installati on at the Madame
Tussauds museum but we also got to pick the brain of Jennifer Smith,
Exec VP of Christi e’s Global Market Soluti ons, on the acquisiti on of
coolux.

You will fi nd these stories and many more within these pages as we
strive to entertain and inform you, all at once.

Enjoy the read.

CORRIGENDUM
In the January-February issue of Entertainment Technology
Asia, there was a misprint of a capti on within the arti cle ti tled
“Electro-Voice Through The Eyes Of A Sound Guy” (Page 54).
The microphone shown at the bott om of page 55 should be
labelled EV RE320, not to be mistaken for the EV RE20.
