“Girls and women are more emotional than men.

So, they take a goal going in not very well”

TETE

(Lyon)

For most of the footballers fleeing
Ukraine following the invasion by
Russia, simply finding a new club
and the opportunity to continue
their careers has been success. But
for some, it has been an opportunity
to thrive, like Brazilian winger Tete.
The 22-year-old hadn’t played in
almost four months when he made
his Ligue1 debut at the start of April,
yet still netted an 80th-minute winner
with a smart finish in Lyon’s 3-2 victory
over Angers. His arrival boosted the
club’s hopes of qualifying for Europe
next season, while also putting himself
in the shop window.
The future of Ukrainian football
remains highly uncertain, and Tete
would have been closely observed by
scouts even before the invasion after
scoring ten goals for Shakhtar Donetsk
before Christmas, including one in the
Champions League. Lyon will be hoping
to make his loan deal permanent.

Kenny Shiels, manager of Northern Ireland women, draws criticism while
discussing his team’s 5-0 defeat to England. He later apologised for his comments

Henrique ARAUJO
(Benfica)
The Portugal Under-21 international
was the star of the show in Benfica U19s’
6-0 thrashing of Red Bull Salzburg in
the UEFA Youth League final, bagging
a hat-trick against the Austrians.

Jonathan GOMEZ
(Real Sociedad)
The18-year-old full-back is the latest
player to be drawn into an international
tug of war between USA and Mexico. He
made his Mexico debut in April – in a
friendly against Guatemala – a year
after winning his first USA cap.

Ben DOAK
(Celtic)
The highly-rated16-year-old recently
confirmed that he will be joining
Liverpool at the end of the season,
for a reported fee of £600,000.

Jamie BYNOE-GITTENS
(Borussia Dortmund)
In April, the17-year-old forward, a former
Chelsea, Reading and Manchester City
academy graduate, made his senior
debut for Borussia Dortmund, two
years after moving to Germany.

Angel DI MARIA
(Paris Saint-Germain)
PSG have reportedly chosen not to take
up their one-year option on Di Maria’s
contract, meaning that he will be a free
agent this summer.Juventus are said
to be in talks with the Argentine.

Festy EBOSELE
(Derby County)
The Republic of Ireland Under-
international wideman will become
the latest player to depart Wayne
Rooney’s side after agreeing to join
