80 years! With dedication, perseverance
and after a challenging 14-month search,
traversing the Western Ghats, from Tapti
to Kanyakumari, Dr. Sugathan fi nally
recorded the bird in Silent Valley.
WALKING IN HIS FOOTSTEPS
There were countless lessons for me
to learn. His words, “I want the youth
IIndian Blue Robinndian Blue Robin Orange-headed Ground Thrush Black Baza
of today to be ornithologists and
not just birdwatchers” will be ones
I will remember.
It is thanks to amazing people like
Dr. Sugathan that we are able to sight
the Ceylon Frogmouth in India’s wilds.
I hope to follow in his footsteps and be
a true student of nature. Time fl ew by
like the birds of Thattekad,
but the sweet and wonderful
memories of the trip will be
cherished forever.
