POSTCARDS

Ila Ismail, a physiotherapist, spent
three days in Venice

On a recent trip to Venice,
my husband and I were
looking for a quiet corner
to people-watch and rest
our legs, and stumbled on
this spot next to an inner
canal. The activity of the
city suddenly gave way to
stillness, and we sat on the
side of the canal relaxing
for more than an hour,
watching the gondolas go
by. Each day of our trip
we’d return, sitting with
our legs hanging over the
edge as we ate breakfast
and gelato, sipped Italian
coffee and listened to
the songs of passing
gondoliers. This picture
brings back those special
memories and the calm,
unhurried moments we
shared – away from the
crowds, just the two of us
and the beauty of Venice.
